Find or Join a Group

Speak Their Name Groups are found in many parts of the UK. Mums and Dads (usually, but not exclusively) gather to connect with and support others who have experienced similar loss. Being bereaved by suicide is a requirement for joining a Group.

Each Group sets its own meeting schedule: often in person, but sometimes virtual. An objective is certainly to create individual, personal Squares that will be sewn together to generate another Memorial Quilt; but some days, simply coming together is a more valuable purpose… and on these occasions, there is rather more talking than stitching or sewing. Contact details for each Group can be found below the Memorial Quilt images; where multiple Memorial Quilts are shown, mousing over a Quilt will cause the carousel to pause. And where no Memorial Quilt is shown yet, the first one is being fabricated. If you live in the area and have been bereaved by suicide, feel free to join.

Yorkshire Speak Their Name

Yorkshire’s Group is the longest active Quilt-creating community in the UK, with five Quilts to date. In connecting people through our Quilts, we are building a community of support as well as creating beautiful memorials to those we have lost. As well as Quilts, we have produced a book and a film. Our principals are also Trustees of the Speak Their Name charity which hosts the online Quilt. Through the charity, we are helping to grow the STN community across the UK.

Somerset Speak Their Name

We unveiled our first Quilt at the Speak Their Name Exhibition in the Houses of Parliament in October 2025. We hold monthly workshops, bringing people together in a safe space to create their Squares as no-one can prepare you for the overwhelming emotions and feelings of isolation which can accompany suicide loss. Our Memorial Quilt project is hosted by Mind in Somerset; we support a private Facebook group and Instagram page to engage our community.

Kent Speak Their Name

The Kent Memorial Quilt Group is sustained by STAK.life CIC (standing for STefan’s Acts of Kindness) – it was launched on 22 September 2025. We have two quilts, crafted with love from across Kent & Medway. They honour our loved ones, and spread hope and suicide prevention awareness in our communities.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Speak Their Name

Nothing can ever prepare anyone for the enormity of a loss by suicide, and the pain is overwhelming, long lasting and life changing. We unveiled our region’s Quilt in September 2024 and have recently added a third panel, alongside a personal one created by a mother for her son. We are humbled by the tenderness that everyone has put into this project, and hope that as more people learn about it, they might want to make a Square for their loved one.

Edinburgh & Lothian Speak Their Name

Lothians Speak Their Name is currently the only Scottish quilt group. We’re touring Scotland until July 2026 to raise awareness of issues around mental health and suicide; and to encourage new quilt groups. Our quilt community has found friendship, support and understanding with and from each other. Knowing how important this has been for us, we hope people bereaved by suicide throughout Scotland will be inspired to do the same.

Cornwall Speak Their Name

We are a Cornwall-based group who have been bereaved by suicide, and who have found shared solace in creating two Speak Their Name Memorial Quilts. The gentle process of producing our quilts has proved to be extremely cathartic.  We travel widely across Cornwall – exhibiting, raising awareness, breaking down stigma, and publicising and promoting fully-funded suicide intervention training in Cornwall.

Val Ribbons

Blackburn with Darwen Speak Their Name

Our group reaches out to those bereaved by suicide in Cornwall. It is an ongoing project, running workshops and a Facebook Group; new members are warmly welcomed. As well as the cathartic process of creating a tribute, contributors share meaningful connections as they navigate life following bereavement by suicide. Our quilt is hosted by Cornwall Mind, with details on their site under Wellbeing Service/Suicide Bereavement Support.

If you would like us to run a workshop in your area, please contact us via Facebook, Instagram or email, and we will aim to accommodate you.

Maxine Carrick

Lincolnshire Speak Their Name

Our Lincolnshire Group, connected to the Lincolnshire Suicide Prevention Lived Experience Forum, aims to honour loved ones lost to suicide, and bring communities together through shared reflection and creativity. Our Forum members act as a central hub for coordinating donations, circulating craft materials, sharing updates, and promoting workshop sessions. They bring all of their lived experience to strengthen bereavement support, increase community participation, and ensure that meaningful, creative initiatives are shaped and led by those who truly understand their importance.
