How do I create a Page? Do you have any advice or suggestions for my Page?

We have a ‘How to…’ video which you can find below. Our best advice is to walk through the first three steps (selecting layout; providing details; choosing header) to the ‘Upload Materials’ page. Make a careful note (or take a screenshot) of the details on this page.

Create a folder on your device, and upload all of your text, images and video (if any) into that folder. Once everything is available, work through to and then complete the fourth ‘Upload Materials’ step. The process is very straightforward; and if you experience difficulty, just call us – we’ll be happy to help!
Can I create my own template?
How many words can I write?

The allowable number of words varies across the different Layouts. For example, Layout 1 has a single text box with an approximate maximum of 250 words; Layout 2 offers two text boxes with maximums of 100 and 225 words; and Layout 6 allows 6 sets of text at around 30 words each, and one larger text box of 140 words. Guidance is provided on each layout.
Am I allowed to post videos? How many?
How do I create a ‘Square’?

A ‘Square’ is a small collage of words and images representing the personality of your loved one; it is featured on the Landing page and at the top of the Memorial page. It can be created in graphic software such as Canva or Photoshop, or presentation software such as PowerPoint or Keynote. It can also be created by assembling objects on a table and taking a photo with a camera-phone.
Can I choose a cover picture from my own photos?
Why can’t I have a photo of my loved-one as my ‘Square’?

We are keen to avoid pictures of loved-ones on the Landing and Home page carousels where visitors arrive on the site – these only feature ‘Squares’. Your ‘Square’ is intended to be a reflection of the character and personality of your loved-one, but a single word or idea is also acceptable.
Can I use images from my phone? Can I photograph a photo?

You can use images from your phone. We strongly recommend that you pay attention to whether your chosen layout requires ‘portrait’ (vertical format) or ‘landscape’ (horizontal format) images, and provide these generally as specified. We can help by selecting the most relevant part of an image, but you will enjoy a better outcome if your photos conform to the format of the boxes that you are filling. Yes, you can photograph a photo and use it, as long as the focus and resolution are well considered.

Why can’t I upload photos from my Apple device?

Apple devices (since the release of iOS 11) usually save photos in HEIF or HEVC format. These are Apple-specific and make best use of the camera capabilities in Apple devices. However, they are not formats that are recognised on the web, so Apple users cannot immediately load most of their photos to sites like ours which are web-based. You can amend the way photos are saved and/or stored on your device by changing the settings to ‘Most Compatible’ rather than ‘High Efficiency’. This saves photos as JPEGs (or JPGs) which is one of the universal standard formats that can be uploaded to the web, and that we accept on our site.
Will I be able to check my Page before it is published?
How long before I can see my Page online?

We can take up to five days to prepare a Page once you have uploaded content to us, depending on how busy we are. We usually take much less! Similarly, once you have confirmed the draft layout we have generated, we may take up to three days to make it publicly visible without a password.
How do I find my Page after I have submitted it?

You can locate your Page on the Find a Square tab on the top menu. When your Page was created, we advised a unique Page number. You can use this; or alternatively, fill in the name(s) of your loved-one in the search field. If any Attributes were identified when the Page was created, you can also search for your loved-one (and people like her or him) by selecting one or more of the Attribute options.
Can more than one person do a Square for my daughter?
Can I create a Page for my colleague? A friend? Can my Page be anonymous?

Yes, you can create a Page for a colleague or a friend. Please check with family and ideally collaborate with others. We do not normally allow more than three Pages about any one individual. Yes, your Page can be anonymous. The Page must have a title, but this does not have to be the name of the individual it was created to represent.
Who will be able to see the Page I have created?
What will you do with my details? How will you use them?

We will keep your details on a secure server. We only use them to contact you, most importantly when the Page is being created and approved by you. We continue to keep them in case there is a query about the content on your Page. We do not, and will never, share your details with any third parties.
What if I don’t want to give my number or email?
Who owns the content I have uploaded?

You own the copyright of your content, and license us to use it on our site. If your copyright is challenged, we will take your Page down until the dispute is resolved. Once the individual or organisation that has contested your copyright confirms to us that their challenge is withdrawn, your Page will be restored for public viewing. Where the dispute centres around a single set of text, image or video, we may allow you to provide an alternative as an easy way to settle the disagreement.
What does it cost to submit a Page?
Can I add my charity on one of your pages?

We are always happy to look at promoting new partners on our pages, and especially our Support page. We not plan to offer our visitors unlimited choices, so there is a limit on the number of charities and not-for-profits that we will promote at any one time. That said, we do rotate partners so please feel free to contact us and discuss.
Can I fundraise for Speak Their Name?
